Newport Dispatch Theme: Elected Officials Working Tirelessly to Drive Economic Growth

As we move forward into a new era of growth and development in Newport, it's essential to recognize the tireless efforts of our elected officials. They have been working diligently to update policies and implement changes that will positively impact our city's economy. It's clear that their dedication to our community is unwavering.

One notable example of this commitment is Council Member Clark Curtis' acceptance of the appointment as Newport City's Constable. This is a significant step forward, and we're grateful for his willingness to take on this new role.

To stay informed about the progress being made by our city officials, I encourage everyone to attend my Mayor's hours every Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9-11:00 AM at the Council room. This will give you the opportunity to see firsthand what's happening and ask questions. It's always better to rely on factual information rather than hearsay or misleading reports.

Our City Council members are working hard to move Newport forward, and it's evident in the numerous updates they've implemented recently. For instance, City Council meetings will now begin at 6:00 P.M., allowing more residents to participate. Additionally, the Document Retention Policy has been adopted, and new policies will be discussed at future meetings.

I'd like to extend my gratitude to Governor and his administration for their ongoing support and availability to assist Newport. It's clear that they're committed to our city's success, and we appreciate their efforts.

The Mayor and City Manager recently met with the Governor to discuss ideas for Newport's growth, and we're excited about the potential opportunities that may arise from these discussions. Our City Attorneys have also been working hard on complex policies, and their dedication is much appreciated.

In addition to these updates, our Public Works Crew deserves a huge shout-out for their exceptional work in cleaning up Prouty Beach and Gardner Park during the recent Eclipse event. It was amazing to see our city come together to celebrate this rare occurrence.

Our Director of Public Works, Thomas Bernier, has been holding weekly safety meetings with his staff, and spring cleanup efforts are now underway. This will ensure that our sidewalks, roads, and facilities are in top condition for the upcoming season.

For those interested in getting involved, there are still openings available on various Boards and Commissions. I encourage you to send in your letters of interest to the Mayor and City Manager to be considered.

I'd like to welcome Jay Walsh to both the Development Review Board and Planning Commission, as well as Andrew Touchette to the DRB and Laurie Grimm to the DRB. Our Planning & Zoning Administrator, Frank Cheney, has been working diligently with increased building permits coming in for the anticipated spring construction season.

Last but not least, let's give a huge thank you to our firefighters for staffing the Fire Department station to prepare for the afternoon of the eclipse. And congratulations to our Interim Chief Kevin Lacoss on the addition of four new firefighters who recently completed the interview and background check process. This is an exciting development, and we're grateful for their dedication to our community.
